The short version: you never need an account to find out where you stand, nothing you answer leaves your browser until you sign in, and if you do we hold your email address and you can delete the lot yourself.

You do not need an account to find out where you stand

Every instrument, every free result and every page of the matrix work signed out. An account is needed for two things: keeping your results, and buying a report or the full plan — what you buy belongs to an account, so it opens on any device.

Signed out, your answers stay on your device

The questions, the matrices and the whole scoring engine ship with the page and run in your browser. Taking an instrument involves no server at all, and there is no request in which an answer could leak. Your answers sit in this browser's local storage and nowhere else until you sign in.

If you sign in, results are saved to your account

From then on every attempt you finish is stored and listed on your account page with its date — a retake is a new attempt, not an overwrite — and anything already sitting in your browser moves across and is cleared from the browser at the same time. What is stored is: which option you picked for each question, the positions those answers produced, which instrument it was, the stage bracket if you gave one, and the date. There is no separate tickbox for this, because keeping your results is what an account is for.

An account is never the price of using the site

Every instrument, every free result and every page of the matrix work signed out and are complete. What an account adds is keeping: your results on another device, each attempt with its date, anything you have paid for, and groups. Signed out, there is genuinely nothing of yours on our servers to ask about.

A result is yours alone

A saved result has its own page, and that page opens only for the account that saved it. Anyone else who has the address gets a page saying there is nothing there — the same page as for an address that never existed. These pages are never indexed by search engines. The only way anyone else sees your results is a group you have chosen to share with.

Groups

Only with the full plan, and only with people invited. Each member has their own account. Joining a group shows everyone in it your name — or the start of your email address if you gave no name — and your results, and shows you theirs; the invitation says so before you join. What a group sees is your latest attempt at each instrument, as positions and closest approaches — never which options you picked. Your results stop being visible the moment you leave or are removed.

Deleting things

Delete any attempt from its page or from your account page; it leaves every group at the same time. Deleting your account removes it, every result attached to it and any group you made, and takes you out of every group you joined, permanently — including anything you have paid for. A result saved before accounts existed can still be deleted by anyone holding its link. Anything still only in your browser is cleared by clearing your browser data, which we cannot do and cannot see.

How long we keep it

A result on an account is kept until you delete it, or the account. Results saved before accounts existed, with no account attached, are removed after two years without being opened.

What we ask about your child

A stage bracket, optionally, at the end. That is the complete list. No ages, no dates of birth, no names, no health information of any kind, and no instrument on this site will ever ask for any of it. The rule is enforced in three places — the type system, an automated test that fails the build, and a constraint in the database itself, which holds even if the application is wrong. A group has no name and its members no labels, for the same reason: those are where a child's name would end up.

Payment

Buying needs an account. Checkout carries a random string and nothing else — no answers, and no account details. Payments are handled by Gumroad as merchant of record; they see your payment details and we do not. We record which account started a checkout and what it was for, and once Gumroad confirms the sale, that your account paid for a report or the full plan. Those records say what was bought and nothing about what you answered.

Analytics

We count page views and how far through an instrument people get. We do not, and structurally cannot, put what you answered into an analytics call — an automated test fails the build if any analytics call anywhere in the codebase mentions an answer, an option or a score.

Your rights, and how to use them

Delete a result from its own page, or your whole account from the account page — that covers erasure without asking anyone. For anything else, write to privacy@parentbrickroad.com. If you have never made an account we genuinely cannot look you up, because there is nothing to look up by.
